An initial enquiry about underground water storage solutions at Countdown Richmond has seen the delivery of a winning Hynds solution.
After putting forward a range of options, Engineered Products Manager Joshua Wight says the Pinnacle® Sealed Box Culvert System was selected for its ability to mitigate buoyancy in an area affected by a high water table and meet required design loadings.
“The requirement for the tank itself was driven by resource consent conditions, and the ability to gain green star points through the inclusion of the system in their build.”
The Pinnacle® Sealed Box Culvert System is the first box culvert in New Zealand with a watertight rubber ring joint. The Pinnacle® Sealed Box Culvert system is manufactured with a collar and spigot which together with the dog bone connector locates and locks adjacent units together. The innovative Tylox® SuperSeal™ pre-lubricated gasket comes pre-installed on the spigots at the downstream end of the culvert units to simplify construction process, providing a fast, reliable and cost-effective sealed culvert solution.
Working with contractor Donaldson Civil, there was a tight construction deadline needed in order to meet the client’s deadline.
“Products were produced in our Palmerston North factory and freighted to Nelson to meet the accelerated programme. The site itself was very condensed and required the use of a staging area nearby to ensure there was enough product available to satisfy the planned installation programme,” adds Joshua.
The project required a coordinated approach from across the business, including Hynds Stormwater, the Engineered Product Managers, technical services, Masterdata, Palmerston North manufacturing and the Nelson Branch.
Due to the speed of the installation, the contractor was able to install upwards of 12 units a shift, almost twice the planned amount.
